Lucy Amy Reed was born on February 5th, 1848 in Whately, MA to Benjamin Franklin Reed and Sarah Wheeler Sanders.  She was the second of four children.  She was adopted by her uncle Albert David Sanders and his wife Jane Elizabeth Tileston soon after her birth and took the name Lucy Amy Sanders Reed..  She was living with her adopted parents in WIlliamsburg, MA in 1850.  The family adopted two more children, Eleanor and Everett Baxter between 1852 and 1855 and they are all living together in 1855 through 1861.  Lucy is sometimes refereed to as Lilly. On December 15th, 1861, Lucy's adopted mother, Jane, passed away of Consumption.  On October 8th, 1862, her adopted father, Albert David died of a fever.

Lucy was left at least $8,000 in the trust of Charles H. Allen of Boston, MA.  I am not sure what happened to her between the 1861 death of her adopted father and her marriage.  She may have stayed in the Northampton area or gone to live with Mr. Allen.  She married John Dresser Lawrence on MAy 25th, 1870 in Northampton, MA.  He was the son of Ithiel Lawrence and Mary Abigail Dresser of Castine, ME.  They start living together in Northampton, MA.  He is in Books and Stationary and has $2,000.  There is no mention of Lucy's money.   In 1873, John is listed as being an Auctioneer and the family is living on West Street.

By 1900, the couple has moved to 2 West St, Pittsfield, MA.  John is working as a Hotel Steward.  The census says that Lucy has lost 2 children though I have found no other record of them.  John dies on July 4th, 1907 in Northampton and Lucy has moved to live with her birth sister Jane, birth mother Sarah, Aunt Lucy and nephews by 1910 at 67 West St, Northampton, MA.  She moved to 23 Crafts Ave by 1915 and to 79 West Street by 1917.  Lucy died in 1918 and is buried with her husband in Bridge Street Cemetery, Northampton, MA.
