Biography of Franklin Adelbert Smith(1842-1864)

Here is another Civil War biography.  This one is on my Second Great Uncle Franklin Adelbert Smith.  He was Merrick Smith's older brother.

Father: Edward B. Smith(1815-1863)-S4
Mother: Lydia Edna Kilborne(1814-1898)-S5

Children: None

Death: June 30th or July 1st, 1864 in Memphis, TN

Franklin Adelbert Smith was born on April 17th, 1842 in Lee, MA to Edward B. Smith and Lydia Edna Kilborne.  He was the second of ten children.  He lived with his family in Lee and Tyringham, MA until 1860.  In 1860 he was working as a Paper Maker. At some point between 1860 and 1863 he moved to Middleton, PA and continued to work as a Paper Maker.  


In June of 1863, he joined Company C of the 19th Pennsylvania Calvary as a Sargent.  He likely saw action in the following activities.

Franklin Adelbert Smith died of his wounds on June 30th of July 1st, 1864.  It is likely that he recieved these wounds early in the month during Sturgis's expedition to Guntown, TN.  I found the following newspaper article describing Sturgis's defeat.  He is buried in the Memphis National Cemetery
