Where the Wright family Immigrants came from-The Wright Iine(s) and Kelvedon Hatch

One of my Wright cousins ask where she should see in England tied to our ancestry.  Of course, this is the type of question that should be easy to answer, but takes you down multiple rabbit hole.  That being said, I will try an answer it in this and other upcoming posts.  These are the best answers I have based on what I know, but I have not validated all the research and therefore some could be wrong.

I'll immediately start with a problem.  There is a discrepancy in the research my Mother did and what others have done on the Wright line around the ancestry of Deacon Samuel Wright.  The good news is both cases it takes you back to Kelvendon Hatch.  So this is a must see.

I'm going to step forward in time from John Wright (1488-1551) who was my 13th Great Grandfather and first Wright to own Kelvedon Hall  But I will give you each alternative line.

Putnam Rye Whiskey

I just received a shipment of Putnam Rye Whiskey from Boston Harbor Distillery  in Massachusetts.  Thanks to my Nephew and his lovely wife for turning me on to this.  When they showed it to me, I new I had to get some.  Unfortunately, they don't have a distributor out here yet, so I had to get it shipped from Bottles Fine Wine in Rhode Island.  They also make a single malt, but that isn't available through my source yet.

The property the distillery is on use to be the Putnam Nail Factory during the mid 1800s.  IT was owned by Silas Putnam.  One of these days I will see if I can figure out how we are related.

June 2nd, 1961-Aboard Queen Elizabeth

  • June 2nd, 1961
  • Aboard Queen Elizabeth
  • Sunny, clear, windy

Managed to get up in time for breakfast though it was an effort. Went up to the sports deck to sun ourselves in our deck chairs and stayed most of the morning. It was windy but sunny and not too cold. More lying around the sun deck in the afternoon. Bingo in the evening in the Garden Lounge. Not too many playing and the stakes fairly low. They have a fairly good orchestra and some of the selections their afternoon and evening were very well done.

June 1st, 1961-Aboard the Queen Elizabeth

  • June 1st, 1961
  • Aboard the Queen Elizabeth
  • Rainy, cool.

Jim came to the station to see us off.  Boat train left promptly - pretty well filled up. Very smooth going through customs as our bags had been shipped directly to our stateroom. Train very cold - not heat on - our first experience of a cold train. Our stateroom is very nice - perhaps a bit more comfortable then the Queen Mary.

Lunch very good and apparently, our permanent  seat will be satisfactory. Dad got deck chairs promptly, though if the weather stays like this, we may not use them much. Listened to the music in the Smoke Room for a while and then went to bed as it has been a rather trying day.
